I’ll take two, please. Sugar Shots Photography│Houston Photographer

February 21st, 2009 , Posted in Uncategorized

What a week!  Besides taking care of my human child who had the stomach bug again this week… I also have been taking care of my two new NON-human children.

Yes, that’s right, my friends… I said non-human children

After being hounded by our kids for about 5 years now to get a dog, my sweetie and I finally decided to give in…  So, a few days ago, we adopted two little boy dogs from the county pound… Actually, we saved their lives (it was their last day before being put down).  And although we really went in looking for only one dog that day, I am soooooo glad that we ended up leaving with two!   They are the sweetest little dogs… both are completely non-agressive (not sure if they were born like that OR if it’s my mad Cesar Millan type skills that are taking over) and very lovey dovey.

Meet Toto:

Meet the dog who still doesn’t have a name:

We’re having a hard time coming up with a name for this last little guy… I don’t know why.  Names like Buddy, Ajax, Spanky, Frisco, and Hank have been thrown out there… but nothing has been decided.  Poor thing.  Half the time I call him Tasha, after my mom’s female dog who he resembles.  He’s gonna be so confused.

Well, it’s late and I must now go let the dogs out one more time before I slink off to bed to watch a little Madagascar II with my beloved (that movie rocks, btw!).

Later… reata

A date with Super Mario Bros… Sugar Shots Photography│Houston Photographer

February 16th, 2009 , Posted in Photography Related Design, Sugar Land + Houston Photography: My Life

Valentine’s weekend… What wonderful weekend for love!  Even though a lot of people feel like Valentine’s is just a fake, commercialized holiday (which it somewhat is, I guess), I still believe it’s a good time to thank your sweetie for being so sweet and for reminding them just how much you love them.  This past weekend, I did just that.   And although my sweetie and I didn’t get to go out on the town for the fabulous Valentine’s date we had hoped for, we did enjoy ourselves a nice little Valentine’s lunch date at PF Changs right before heading over to a VIP birthday party for my nephew’s 5th birthday  (where we simaltaniously celebrated my niece’s 6th birthday).  And honestly, we couldn’t have asked for a better time!  We had eachother, our loving family, some friends, tons of cotton candy, cake, and a truck load of Super Mario Bros birthday party gear!  Seriously… I’ve never seen so much Mario in one location.  My nephew, who goes by the names Mario, Luigi, Yoshi (but never, ever Bowser!) depending on what mood he’s in, loves  Super Mario Bros and was having such intense fun opening all of his Mario presents that the rain and cold didn’t even seem to bother him one single bit.  Unfortunately, I didn’t take any pictures at the party because I [ gasp! ] forgot my camera at home… but I would like to take some space out of this post to showcase a  little photo of me and my Valentine….  I love him so much!  He is mine and I am his.  :)

sweetums.

Next up on my list of things to blog about… Another design I created.  This time for my fabulous hairstylist Lynn, whom I’ve mentioned a million times before on this blog.  She had me design a marketing card for her…  I had fun working with her and I think the end results turned out great.  The card design was custom designed by yours truly, but the photo was courtesy of Lynn (via Framesi Professional Haircare Products).

Love the cards, Lynn… Hope they bring you lots of new business!  ;)

Snail Mail. Sugar Shots Photography│Houston Photographer

February 6th, 2009 , Posted in Sugar Land + Houston Photography: My Life

Good things come by way of the postman.   It never fails:  No matter how gloomy your day is going, if the postman happens to swing by your house and drop off a little something to you that isn’t a bill, your day suddenly gets 10x brighter.  It’s a simple fact of life.  And in today’s world, where most of our correspondence is being done on the Internet (hi internet friends!), getting real live mail is even more special!

Today, I was visited by the postman.  I received two very awesome things which made my cheery world get even brighter…

First:  I got a bent up cardboard box that was addressed to my husband….  He brought it in off the front porch to me, smiling and looking rather proud.  When he handed it to me, I was slightly puzzled.  For me??  What the heck is this??  Whatever it is, I hope it’s not broken cuz it’s really beat up!?!?  I opened it up and got a super fantastic surprise:

A vintage Argus C3!

My new little Argus is a 1954 model.  At least I *think* it is…. from what I gathered by reading the manual it came with.  Anyhow, it also came with it’s original brown leather carrying case, a flash, 2 boxes of flash bulbs, a vintage black camera bag, and a really cool Kodak Guide to taking photos!

I didn’t take pictures of everything, but here is the Kodak guide:

Isn’t it just the coolest thing ever?!?  Well… I think it is.  I will cherish it forever!  Thanks, My Love!  Muahh!

Second:  The second most wonderful thing the postman delivered to me was quite unexpected.  It was this awesome Valentines’ Day Card from AT&T….

Looks cute and has some silly coupons in it… BUT

then for some strange reason, I noticed (and took the time to read!) the small print:

vday2

So goofy!  So glad I took the time to read their card!

Anyhow, it’s late over here and I need to go order a client’s photo order; so, my friends, I must bid you adieu now.  Here’s to hoping the postman on your route delivers something extra special to you!

New Do. Sugar Shots Photography│Houston Children’s Photographer

February 3rd, 2009 , Posted in Richmond + Sugar Land + Houston Kids Photography, Sugar Land + Houston Photography: My Life

New haircuts make you feel good…  It’s that simple.  Not only do they make you feel pretty, but they can magically transform you into this new person.  Suddenly, you feel so high and mighty that you can instantly do things that you could never do before.  You’re glamorous.  You’re whitty.  You’re confident.  You are so important.  And furthermore, you look look so first-class, that for a moment you believe that all your friends need to stop what they’re doing and admire look at you.

That was the case today for my daughter.  She was The It Girl….  and she was happy to have her moment.  The whole way home from visiting Lynn (my favorite hairstylist ever!), she couldn’t keep her eyes off herself.  She was bubbly.  She was giddy.  And, the second we got home, she ran to show all the neighbor kids the new hair do they’d most undoubtably been waiting to see all afternoon.  ;)

If you are in the Sugar Land area and need a new glamorous do for yourself… You must go visit the Amazing Lynn!  Give her a call and tell her that Reata sent you……  832.264.6053

Another Go-Round. Sugar Shots Photography│Houston Baby Photographer

February 2nd, 2009 , Posted in Richmond + Sugar Land + Houston Baby Photography

sweet.

Okay.  So here is the update on Little Miss E, whose last session ended a bit early since she wasn’t feeling 100%….  Good news!  This time around she had lots more fun and felt great!  We wondered around Discovery Green Park in Downtown Houston in the icy weather and had a heart warming grand time.  Yes, by the way, you read that correctly… I did say icy weather and Houston in the same sentence…. It was only 30 something degrees out that morning!  Boy was I shocked!  Needless to say, there were many cutie pie outfits that her momma (who is famous in my book for buying the most fantastic baby girl clothes!)  had packed for her that we didn’t get to use… but it didn’t really matter.  Miss E rocked out her awesome pea coat and hat!

i just love this one:

i think this is the sign that made her crack…

and brought on the tears:

Oh well.  Regardless of any tears, I think all her photos turned out super cute… and I hope her momma and daddy do too.  :)
